Pumpkin recipes

In late autumn, pumpkin time comes. Pumpkin is a very healthy vegetable. It contains provitamin A, a large amount of vitamin C, potassium, and, very importantly, a lot of fiber, including its soluble part - pectins, which help lower blood cholesterol.

Pumpkin is an indispensable attribute of the holiday Halloween, which in recent years has become popular in our country. It is celebrated on the night of October 31 to November 1. Halloween is one of the oldest holidays in the world. Its history goes back thousands of years, starting from the Celtic Samhain festival, the Roman Pomona Day (the goddess of plants) and the Christian All Saints Day. It strangely combines the Celtic tradition of honoring evil spirits and the Christian tradition of worshiping all saints.

Contrary to popular belief that this holiday is a day of evil spirits, this is just a traditional Celtic New Year. On this night, according to Celtic customs, there was a change in the next time cycle. It was believed that on this day a hole will form in time, since the old world is leaving with the old year, and the new world has not yet arrived.

On this day, the Celts paid special attention to the memory of their ancestors. The doors and windows of houses where there were deceased relatives were left open so that the dead could return unhindered. To prevent evil spirits from entering the open door, the Celts drew images of guardian spirits on pumpkins that guarded the house from evil spirits.

Well, in our time, these traditions left funny carnival costumes and pumpkin lanterns, which symbolize at the same time the end of the harvest, the evil spirit and the fire that scares him away.

How to make a pumpkin lantern
Lay the pumpkin on a few sheets of paper for less litter. Using a sharp long knife, cut the lid of the pumpkin where the stalk is. Cut the lid at an angle, this will prevent it from falling into the cut pumpkin. The resulting hole should be large enough so that you can stick your hand in.

Then clean the pumpkin from seeds and fibers (it is convenient to use a dessert spoon). With a felt-tip pen, draw facial features on the pumpkin, which you will then cut out. With a small knife, cut out the eyes, nose, and mouth on the pumpkin and push it inward.

Place a small candle in the pumpkin and cover with a cut off lid.

And from the pulp of a pumpkin you can cook a lot of delicious dishes.
